Scott Howatson – A star who will never be forgotten

On Friday night, 18th January 2008, one of the club's former players Scott Howatson was involved in a road traffic accident and tragically & sadly died.

We would like to pass on our thoughts & condolencies to all of Scott's family & friends, and to thank Scott for the service that he gave to Roach Dynamos over many years.

Below, ex vice chairman & Scott's former manager Ray Brown pays tribute to a gifted footballer and a wonderful person.

"Scott played for Roach Dynamos for six years and he will never be forgotten.

My memories of him as a player are that he was quick and although not the biggest he was fearless. He could play anywhere on the left-hand side of the team but mainly played centre back or left back.  He was a member of the championship winning team in 2003, received over the years all the major awards within the club, including Managers Player of the year.  At under 18s he was also one of eight players in the team who represented the inter league (the Bury and Radcliffe Junior Football League).  He was simply a tremendous player.

However, he was not just a good footballer, he was also a very good person. I always remember that if I needed help before or after a game he would always help me. He rarely got frustrated with the team he was a quiet lad who just got on with his job.  If he did make a comment his comments were always constructive rather than negative, and usually for the love of the team but his assessment of what had gone wrong was usually spot on.

I admired him greatly, as a footballer and a person.  I feel a very special person has left us who I will never forget and I am sure that goes for many people who had the pleasure of knowing him.  I am sure he would have continued to have a successful life and it is a tragedy that this has happened. I will never forget your commitment to the team Scott and the help you gave me - I will remember the big smile and the good sense of humour. I used to say to people that I would have been proud if you had been my son and hopefully those few words say it all, and my thoughts are with you Scott and your family, take care and rest in peace xx."

Ray Brown

Proud to be Scott’s Manager..

Roach get cheque from Currys

The club were absolutely delighted last week when they were presented with a cheque for £350 from electrical retailer Currys. Our PR Officer & web site manager Phil Rostron works for the company as a regional manager, and applied to the 'Switched on communities' department, a scheme that makes money available for local charities, groups and clubs.

Currys, who have previously sponsored a full kit for the under 15's of which Phil is the manager, were delighted to donate the money to what they see as a fantastic local club.

Chairman Garry Cain said;   "I think it's fantastic that a massive company like Currys has put some money into the local community. It's great to know that when shopping with them, I know that a percentage of their profits is coming back into our town to help the kids"

Phil added;   "Currys are always looking to help local communities, and as soon as I mentioned  my involvement with Roach Dynamos, I was encouraged by the company to apply for some money that would reward the club and ultimately the local kids.

Pictured below is Phil (the one with the sexy legs) presenting the cheque to Garry with the under 15's and under 16's watching closely.

The club would like to thank Currys for their generosity.
