History - Club
Roach Dynamo Junior Football Club was established in 1975, founder members meeting at the Roach Hotel in Bury. Since those early years, the club now has firmly established its roots in the town of Heywood, Lancs.
Our teams play in the North Bury Junior leagues up to the age of 11 after which they move to the Bury & Radcliffe league & the Bolton Boys & Girld Federation, although one of our most successful teams played in the Salford League.
Roach was granted the prestigious FA Charter Club status in 2002 and the club came runners up in the 2003 Rochdale Club of the Year Awards.
We have enjoyed many successful seasons as our roll of honour shows. In particular we are proud of the Manchester County Cup win in 1998 as part of an under 12's treble, with the same team going on to win the prestigious Lancashire County Cup in 2000. Our under 15's were privileged to represented Heywood in 2001, playing against a team from the twin town of Peine in Germany.
In addition to the team trophies we have had a number of players win individual awards and go on to play in the professional game. We take pride in the knowledge that we have contributed to the development of individual players such as Paul Gerrard of Oldham, Everton, Nottingham Forest & England U21, Jason Jarrett of Bury and Wigan. Dave (Giggsy) Buchannan of Bury who has represented and scored for Northern Ireland at U19 level; Steven Hogg was part of the youth team at Manchester United in 2004 and has played at Shrewsbury Town & Gretna in the Scottish Premier League. Also Lewis Allesandra who is in the first team at Oldham.
We have at present ex-players who are on schoolboy forms at Manchester United FC & Blackburn.
At junior levels Jason won Player of the Year for the Bury & Radcliffe League at under 12's & under 16's in 1992 & 1996 respectively. Craig Walker won the award at under 13's in 1995. Lewis Alessandra was voted for at under 12's in 2001. Dave Buchannan won Player of the Year for the Salford League in 1999 at under 14's. Damien Hulse was vote for at Under 18's in 2005.
Our goalkeepers have also been successful with individual awards going to Martin Campbell who won Goalkeeper of the Year at under 16's & under 17's in 1996 & 1997 for the Bury & Radcliffe League with Adam Callan winning at under 14's in 2001.
