Open Age 2nds - Match Report 20/3

The open age second team played Mostonians on Saturday, and moved convincingly into fourth place with two games in hands after an excellent 2-0 victory. Both teams on show were young, and could clearly play excellent football, and in the first half, the game was played mainly in the midfield, with not many clear cut chances being created. In the second half though, Roach were on a mission, and five minutes after the restart, a superb move down the left saw Dave Shackleton find Brett Rostron with a pin point cross, midfielder Rostron took the ball down and drilled it into the net to give Roach the lead. The Heywood side then applied real pressure to their opponents and before long, player of the match Danny Wolstenholme looped a header over the keeper to double Roach’s lead. Chances were then created at both ends as Moston pushed on, and Roach exploited the space, but no more goals were to come, and Roach were more than worthy of their 2-0 victory.
