Roach Dynamos under 10s faced a difficult task away at Chadderton Grasshoppers Blue on Saturday 13th March.
In what turned out to be a real bruising encounter against a very physical Chadderton team Roach showed the steel and determination that has been displayed on numerous occasions this season by this very talented squad of young players.
Kai Miller started the game in great form and his pacey runs soon brought about Roach’s opener, quick thinking from Roach’s keeper Chris Brown found the pacey forward in space and his surging run and pass opened up the Chadderton defence for his strike partner Brad Lynch to finish in emphatic style.
The goal sprung Chadderton into life and Keeper Chris Brown was called upon on more than one occasion to pull off some fine saves, Roach’s defence of Corey Marsh and Jordan Parr were in the thick of the action and won sum very timely tackles to preserve Roach’s advantage.
At the other end Kai Miller twice went close before Brad Lynch rounded the keeper and finished off a terrific break started from Roach’s own box.
Two nil to Roach was looking like the half time score right up until the last touch of the half when a fine corner in from Chadderton was met with a clean headed finish.
All still to play for second half and the introduction of the ever dependable Adam Grimshaw into Roach’s back line brought a solidity that Chadderton try as they might couldn’t find a way past.
Matthew Royle was on now to link up with Brad Lynch and the pair carved out a couple of decent chances that could of finished Chadderton off.
Roach’s game is all about pass and move with pace but today it was all about desire on a terrible bumpy pitch that hindered any flowing football.
No one typified that desire more than the midfield trio of Alex Simpson, Brandon Kwei-Sutcliffe and captain Ethan Littler who won there battle in the middle of the park to see Roach home safely to victory and a precious three points in there quest for the premiership crown.
Make no mistake this was three very hard earned points and every player gave there all to get them, the spirit in this team shines though week in week out they should all be very proud of themselves and the delight at the final whistle was there for all to see.
Man of the Match fittingly went to Alex Simpson for a towering display at the heart of Roach’s midfield, he gave it everything in winning important tackles all over the pitch.
