Open Age 2nds – Match Report 20/2

The open age second team entertained Tottington, the team that they beat last week in a 6-5 thriller. This week, it was more of the same, but with even more goals. Full back Adam Kennedy opened the scoring for Roach on ten minutes, and on the end of a great cross from the other full back Mark Hughes, Brett Rostron rose above the pack and headed into the net to double Roach’s lead. The visitors pulled one back two minutes later, and the game continued to be end to end. Five minutes before the interval, Ross Jones made it 3-1, but right on half time, Tottington were awarded a penalty, which they converted to make it 3-2. In the second half, Roach started to dominate, Lee Clayton, headed a great goal, Craig Cosgrave and Aaron Boyle both netted to extend Roach’s lead further, Tottington scored again, Hughes replied for Roach with another great finish, and then following another Tottington goal, as Roach kicked off, Rostron used his initiative, spotted the opposing keeper off his line and from his own half scored the goal of the game sending the ball into the back of the Tottington net. The game finished 8-4 to Roach, and Lee Clayton was named man of the match for a brave, non-stop performance in the centre of the Roach midfield.
