Under 9s Orange Match Report – 31/10

Roach welcomed Unsworth looking to extend their five game unbeaten run, and from the start Roach looked the stronger team with some silky passing moves through midfield to create some good chances.  Roach were far too strong in midfield with Curtis Rowland, Sam Mather and Connor Sugdon closing down and winning the ball every  time Unworth tired to build up an attack.  Roach pressed and closed down to win the ball back and found Sam Mather on the right who crossed to find Curtis Rowland in the box to coolly place the ball into the bottom corner to put Roach 1 up with only 10 min’s played. Unsworth came back with some good passing moves and created some half chances but defenders Lee Bagshaw and Mitchell Clarke were too strong.  From a long ball Rowland found Wright who drove forward for goal but the defenders held there ground and cleared the ball at the expense of a corner.  Connor Sugdon ran to take and wiped the ball into the net from the corner to make it 2-0. Roach made changes and with Harison Kilroy and Tom Rooney coming on and made an immediate impact with Rooney coming close on three occasions.  Roach continued to press and Rooney in the centre of midfield found Daniel Wright with time to turn and slot the ball home to make it 3-0 just before the break.

The second half saw Unsworth come back into the game with some good chances but on form keeper Niall Barnes was just too quick and strong and soon snuffed out any chance that came to the visitors.  Unsworth continued to attack and put Roaches defenders on the back foot and soon found spaces around the back and straight on to goal but Rowland made up the ground to get an excellent tackle in only for the ref to  give  a penalty. The Unsworth captain placed the ball and smashed it to the keepers left, but Barnes guessed the right way and pulled off a super save to keep a clean sheet.  Roaches defenders had to work hard and Bagshaw and Clarke were up to the challenge and determined not to concede a goal .Roach worked hard as a team and held on to there 3-0 lead.

Man of the Match went to Tom Rooney who dominated the centre of midfield.
