Roach under 18’s travelled to Atherton on Sunday and brought all three points back to Heywood with a comfortable and convincing victory. The under 18’s entertained Turton on Sunday and came away with all three points after a real battling match. Danny Wolstenholme opened the scoring for Roach on five minutes and then the home side dominated the first half, doubling their lead just before the interval courtesy of a superb strike from Jamie Diamond. The under 18’s travelled to Bolton on Sunday morning and faced Turton in a match between two teams that will both be in the reckoning at the top of the table by the end of the season.

The under 18’s went made hard work of Sunday’s Lancashire County Cup, but progressed into the last 16 nevertheless. Ulverston from the Lake District had made the long journey to Heywood, and the travelling must have taken its toll as Roach went 2-0 ahead after just 30 minutes through Andy Illingworth and Ranny Wolstenholme. The under 18’s were involved in a thirteen goal thriller on Sunday, and their persistence and quality football meant that they came away with all three points. They entertained North Walkden and after just one minute, Robert Leyden gave Roach the lead. The under 18’s booked their ticket for the next round of the Lancashire County Cup with a hard earned win away at Farnworth. Due to injuries, Roach had just eleven players, but the lads did the club proud, working hard and playing good football for the whole 90 minutes. The under 18’s were honoured to be asked to play F.C. United in a friendly game last Wednesday, and under the bright floodlights of Manchester, Heywood was well and truly represented as Roach showed what a good footballing side they are. United took the lead with a great header from a corner on 25 minutes, but player of the match Jamie Diamond flicked the ball up and volleyed an unbelievable shot over the keeper to level the match. The under 18’s played their first home game of the season on Sunday and took the three points with a 6-2 win against Furlong Rangers from Wigan.
